The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance/Call to Order/Roll Call. The Summersville R-II Board of Education met in regular session on Thursday, December 14th at 6:00 p.m. The next regularly scheduled school board meeting will be Thursday, February 8th at 6:00 p.m. Hunt, superintendent, for the 2024-2025 school year. The Board also approved the contract for Dr. A student discipline issue was then discussed. Next, the Board approved hiring Jodie Brumble to coach elementary volleyball this year. In closed session, the executive meeting minutes from December were approved. A final calendar will be approved in February. Hunt shared the results of the staff calendar surveys. Next, the Board updated Policy BDA to reflect the correct Board meeting day as Thursday, instead of Tuesday. The district was awarded the 30/30 (full points) for the CSIP and will continue to ensure it is updated and used to guide district decisions in all areas. Hunt asked the Board to conduct their quarterly review of the district CSIP and shared the CSIP scoring guide and feedback received by DESE. Newby also recognized Jack Spencer for being a favorite teacher of many students and being willing to dress up in an inflatable costume as a student incentive. Newby recognized Ashley Beavers, Heather Cooper, and Lisa Haynes for their help with all of the homecoming festivities.

Newby’s high school report listed several past and upcoming events for the junior high school and high school including the Drama Club Talent Show, the FFA Greenhand Conference, and the FAFSA Parent Night. Natalie Manier for her hard work and for setting high expectations for her preschool students. Bird’s elementary report highlighted benchmark testing, finalizing ELA curriculum (a huge accomplishment!), and elementary APR data along with plans for improvements. Next, the building principals reported on enrollment, discipline, attendance, and upcoming events in both buildings. Then, the Consent Items were approved (agenda, minutes from previous meetings, bills for payment, and financial statement).
